As a freelance developer do I need to know how to use CMS systems ?
CMS – Content Management System
The BIG question is: I know how to program a website/system why should I learn how to use someone else’s.
My point, opinion, experience(YES experience) and research is:
Using CMS systems like WordPress for blogging, e-commerce and just a normal website is sooo much cheaper as you only need hosting& a domain, it is also very easy to setup and use by an individual, in a few hours or less you can have an online store setup and running by just clicking installing plugins selecting and theme and you’re done!
Now Where does a programmer come in ?
Programmers come in as not everything can be done by a few clicks, they want their site customised to how they want it to look, they need some extra features (need to create plugins) and so on. Not everything can be done with a few clicks, fine the setup is easy and then they discover its not exactly what they had in mind, they not going to throw it away and hire a programmer to develop a complete new website, they will go and look for a programmer to hire and customise and fix everything they want accordingly.
Now the next question, what do I start with ?
WordPress is known to be the biggest CMS system @ 58.5%
Next coming in is Joomla @ 7.2%
The “best” said CMS for e-commerce is Magento @ 2.6%
